Open Signals

Open Signals is a concert series project that will take place in Cologne and online. It connects local, national, and digital artists working in experimental electronic music and combines live performances with online streaming to develop new musical and visual formats, strengthening Cologne's position as a hub for innovative forms of culture. Four musicians or groups will perform on site, supplemented by streamed live acts. Experimental DJ sets will round out the program. The aim is to promote interdisciplinary exchange and reach new target groups.

Open Signals is an innovative concert project that takes place both physically and digitally at various locations. The aim of the project is to promote the local experimental electronic music scene by closely networking it with regional, national, and international artists. Not only are new forms of presentation and performance being tested, but the possibilities of digital interaction and networking are also being fully exploited.

Concept

The central concept of Open Signals is based on the fusion of physical and digital spaces. Live performances by various musicians on site are streamed simultaneously on the internet, while the performances are projected in real time at the location. This bidirectional networking creates a unique concert atmosphere in which local and global actors stand side by side on an equal footing. Audiences have the opportunity to experience the concerts either directly on site or worldwide via livestreams on platforms such as Twitch and YouTube, and to participate via chat.

Goals of Open Signals

  1. Promoting exchange and collaboration
Open Signals provides a platform for interdisciplinary exchange between artists from different cultural and artistic backgrounds. By integrating both physical and digital performances, artists can learn from each other, gain new perspectives, and broaden their creative horizons.

  2. Reaching new audiences
The hybrid structure of the project makes it possible to appeal to a much wider audience than traditional concert formats. People from different regions and with different interests can network through digital channels and thus become a global community of music lovers. In particular, younger audiences who are familiar with digital media can be reached more easily.

  3. Creation of new forms of presentation
Open Signals offers artists the opportunity to try out innovative and experimental presentation formats. Such experiments can open up new avenues for artistic expression and enrich the creative process. This also provides an easy way to present music from Cologne internationally.

  4. Documentation and sustainability
Streaming and recording the concerts creates a lasting record that is available long after the actual concert evening. These recordings can not only be used for later viewing by the audience, but also serve as a valuable resource for the participating artists, who can analyze, develop, and promote their work. It also increases the visibility of the artists in the digital world.

Program:
The Open Signals program is as diverse as it is innovative. It includes four live acts featuring both local and international artists. Two of the acts are from the Cologne scene and will perform live on site, while the other two artists will contribute their performances digitally. This mix of physical and digital presence ensures a varied and dynamic experience.
The second part of the evening focuses on experimental DJ sets that transcend the boundaries of traditional music genres and open up new worlds of sound. These DJ sets will also be broadcast live on site and online, inviting the audience to embark on a sonic journey that is both aurally and visually inspiring.
By combining these elements, Open Signals becomes not just a concert evening, but a comprehensive experience that re-explores the possibilities of digital and physical art presentation, linking the local and global music scenes.
